Alan Tate is an English teacher for the Fred W. Edwards Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas.
A self-professed bookworm, Mr. Tate is “Old School,” in his approach to teaching in that his fundamental goal as a teacher is to foster learning and everyone is capable of learning, whether it’s lecture atmospheres, discussion, or reading and reflecting on what they have read. But if the instructor doesn't show interest in the subject and a passion for learning, students are less likely to put forth the effort to learn in that class. An instructor must convince students of his or her knowledge and expertise before they will show a willingness to learn. (He’s paraphrasing Bertrand Russell and he’s wordy– forgive him…he minored in philosophy.)
Mr. Tate is married to an English teacher and they have three children and a dog named Melrose.
